New Music Friday - Black Oak Ensemble

Trailer for Dance of the Night Sky

The ensemble’s third Cedille album aims to expand the repertoire for string trio with eight contemporary works — including four world premiere recordings — by British women composers

Known for championing overlooked repertoire, Black Oak Ensemble brings passion and precision to each piece. This release continues their ensemble’s mission with power and depth. Dance of the Night Sky isn’t just a recording—it’s a statement on inclusion, discovery, and artistic daring in the 21st-century classical music landscape. A unique and exciting selection of works that take the listener on a journey of thought-provoking yet calming pieces.

The Black Oak Ensemble comprises Swiss-American violinist Desirée Ruhstrat, British-born cellist David Cunliffe—both of whom are founding members of the multi-Grammy-nominated Lincoln Trio—and French-born violist Aurélien Fort Pederzoli.

It has been a pleasure to toggle through this album, listen to one of our favorites:
